Seahawks Representing for GB Under 19's

(L to R) Sam Gee, Louis Benzey, Andrew Banda, Toby Naylor, Aaron Smith, Rob Lowe

Last Saturday, 30th March, Great Britain Under 19's took on their Norwegian counterparts in a European Championship Qualifier. Although the GB team lost the game 30-12, the Young Lions showed immense character and resolve against a more experienced Norwegian side. Included in the gameday squad were 6 Seahawks! (It would've been 7, but Kieron Johnson had the task of choosing between a game for his country and the BUCS Premiership Final in his first season with the Hertfordshire Hurricanes!) The Seahawks had Sam Gee, Louis Benzey, Andrew Banda, Toby Naylor, Aaron Smith and Kieron Purdham in the game. All 6 showed the grace and humility that has become synonymous with Seahawk players.

Kieron Purdham

Not only did 6 Seahawks players make the squad, but 2 of them - Toby and Sam - were selected to be captains and lead their country in their most important game in some time. Both Sam and Toby have been with the Seahawks through Youth and Junior football, and the club are incredibly proud to have seen them grow from new players to the sport to running out the tunnel at John Charles Centre for Sport at the weekend with their nation behind them!

Kieron Johnson would no doubt have been in the gameday squad if his Uni team hadn't made the Uni final. Kieron had 2 interceptions and a touchdown in his GB debut against France in Amiens. Also in the larger GB squad this season we have had Rowan Milner and Oli Raven. The selections of all 9 of these players is a testament to them as players, but also to the coaches and staff of the Seahawks. As a club we pride ourselves on the development of our players; whether that is on the field representing their country, moving to the NCAA in the US like Ben Thomas or becoming amazing young adults in their communities and thriving off the field. The Seahawks truly are a FAMILY and everyone that pulls on the Seahawks jerseys will always be part of the FAMILY!
